Please note, for the shifts we are training for, pay is $10/hour in cash!
Here’s how it works: There are three types of shifts. Opening, Front Desk, and Closing. Below is a schedule for training for these shifts. If you are interested in training for any of these, you will only need to show up for the part of the training relevant to the shift you would like.
Training will be from 6:00 – 7:30 PM on Thursdays 3/21 and 3/28 with Lindsay Chronister
Opening shifts are generally from 7-8pm on Thursday evenings. Our openers set up the building for the evening; this includes turning on all the lights and air conditioners, setting up chairs, sound systems and the front desk. There usually are 2 people who work this shift each Thursday and this shift does not interfere with your ability to attend the classes or dance for the rest of the evening. Generally staff members receive 2 opening shifts per month.
Training will be from 7:30 – 8:00 PM on Thursdays 3/21 and 3/28 with Jonathan Jow
To excel in this role, you must be able to learn how to efficiently operate a cash register (our system is simple) while offering friendly customer service, especially to those new to event. Sometimes the line gets long, so you will need to be friendly and efficient under pressure! Front desk shifts are 1.5 hours beginning in April, meaning you will receive $15 cash for each front desk shift worked. As with opening shifts, staff members on the front desk rotation generally receive 2 shifts per month.
Training will be from 11:30 PM – 12:30 AM on Thursdays 3/21 and 3/28 with Lindsay Chronister
This shift is the exact opposite of opening. Everything gets turned off, packed up, and put away neatly for the next week. As with other shifts, staff members generally receive 2 shifts per month.
We are in need of 2-3 additional shift leads. Shift leads are paid $35 for the night, plus any front desk shifts they may work. The shift lead opens, closes, and generally makes sure staff show up for their duties and get paid. This person does not coordinate the entire staffing entity, they are only responsible for the Thursdays they are scheduled to work. Generally shift leads are scheduled to work once per month.
If any of these positions interest you, feel free to join us at the Fed on Thursdays 3/21 and/or 3/28 to train for a staffing position. Once you have completed the training, you will be approved for serving on the Austin Swing Syndicate staff the following month!
If you have any questions about training or staffing in general, email Lindsay Chronister at firstname.lastname@example.org, otherwise, just show up with shoes you can walk in if you are training for the opening or closing shifts!
These training sessions are also events on our Facebook page:
I hope to see many of you there so we can continue to offer great events to the swing dancing community in Austin!
